Ted Bundy’s October 19, 1979 letter to Mary DeLong

 

On October 19, 1979, Ted Bundy wrote a two page letter to Mary DeLong saying that he was in good physical and mental condition, and he also mentioned Carole Boone’s plan to move to Florida.

The letter includes the original mailing envelope written by Bundy who has used his attorney's name (Marlin Vortman, also his friend) and return address in the upper left corner.

October 19, 1979

Dear Mary,

        Just a short note to tell how relieved I am that you are recovering nicely and that you have escaped from confinement in the hospital. I feel so selfish because I tend to be caught up in my own difficulties when I should be sensitive to the hardships of those I care a lot for. Dear Mary I cannot imagine you in ill health. You have such a free and youthful spirit. I was surprised constantly during your hospitalization. This too was selfish, since I place such a high value on your friendship.

        Your letters and notes are a true source of strength for me. Your clippings have become my sole source of news about events in Seattle and the Pacific Northwest. (I don’t receive the Weekly any longer.)

        On the subject of being overweight, I now weigh 186 which is more than I have ever weighed. While I am eating quite well, I am also exercising more than I ever have before. I am in superb physical condition, in part due to my daily Yoga routine. I am in good mental condition due to my Yoga meditation. So I am not worried about my weight. It is probably a normal healthy weight.

         Carole should be moving to Florida soon. I have tried to answer her questions as you asked, but having her here, and being able to speak with her, should correct our communications problem. Gainesville, Florida, is supposed to be a beautiful place to live, and I’ve been assured that Carole and Jamey will love it. I hope you can travel to Florida to visit all of us.

         It has been too long since we last had a chance to visit. What has it been, three years or more?
